As most of you will probably be aware, we’ve been faced with a number of challenges to our proposals for the Hampton by Hilton hotel at Duxford’s Imperial War Museum. These challenges have all come from the owner of the local Holiday Inn Express, who’s plan has always been to delay our opening by preventing planning going ahead. Each new list of objections has become steadily weaker, as all policy disputes have now run out and the objections being used are now irrelevant, for example: we are building too many rooms, or we may find it difficult to recruit staff.
The good news is Cambridgeshire County Council has remained committed to seeing our hotel application achieved, with their own legal team tackling each and every query with an unwavering resolve to clear the way for planning permission sign off – which has now been achieved!
There could be a request for a judicial review, however, this would be unlikely to get started due to a low chance of success after our challenger was defeated 73% to 27% in the planning vote.
The end of this saga – and a brand new Hampton by Hilton in Duxford with a bright new future – is in sight!
[The Hampton by Hilton will] bring great benefits to the local economy through the creation of jobs and attraction of new visitors to the local area … We believe it will also improve our offering as a museum with the option to stay overnight and explore more local attractions and increase the ease with which people can enjoy multiple days of our fantastic annual air shows.”
